Jean II, also known as Jean Le Bon, ruled France from 1350 to 1364. When he reached the throne, the country was facing several problems, like the Black Death, the popular revolts of the Jacqueries and the presence of English invaders on his lands.

The conflict with the English was part of a longer conflict that we know as the Hundred Year’s War. In 1356, Edward, the Black Prince started a campaign of pillage and destruction aimed to erode the economy and productivity of the French territories. Jean II pursued him and finally both armies met at the Battle of Poitiers.

As Jean II was going to participate in the fight, he surrounded himself with 17 other knights dressed and equipped exactly like him, in order to confuse the enemy. In spite of that, he was captured, event that led to the immediate defeat of the French forces.

This classic from miniatures’ history was released in the early 2000’s by Elite Miniaturas and the original boxart was painted by Pepe Gallardo.
